Tutoring Do's and Don'ts

We must remember as students what we would like our teachers to do for us as it is important for our personal and academic development. The following are some do's and dont's that tutors should remember in order for a tutoring session to be successful:

Do's -
1. As a tutor, always make yourself available to the tutee, this will go a long way.
2. Give great tutoring advise, after all, why else are you a tutor?
3. Share your best knowledge and make sure you are clear.
4. A good tutor guides in a positive direction, always do this.
5. Dress assertively, this will boost confidence on both sides and automatically encourage postivity in a tutoring session.

Dont's -
1. Never seem too busy or unavailable, this is rude and discouraging, after all, we are trying to boost encouragement.
2. Never talk about the Professor, it is irrelevant to your job as a tutor.
3. Never be unprofessional and unconvincing. Students need professionalism.
4. Never be distracted by the surroundings, focus on the student and the tutoring session in progress.
5. Never use language that is inappropriate or terrible.
